As an indication of the growing popularity of Carinthia as a ski desintation plans are in hand to bring a World Cup event to the region
Carinthia launches Italy Slovenia Ski World Cup plans
The province of Carinthia is planning to organise a Ski World Cup in cooperation with bordering Slovenia and the Italian region of Friuli.
BZÖ provincial governor Gerhard Dörfler, who recently succeeded deceased former BZÖ boss Jörg Haider in this position, said he has thought of Kranjska Gora in Slovenia, Tarvis in Italy and the Carinthian ski resort of Bad Kleinkirchheim as potential venues for events.
The regions failed in past applications to organise Olympic Winter Games but Dörfler said he wants to revive the "Senza Confini" (No borders) vision and added he will soon meet Peter Schröcksnadel, head of the Austrian Skiing Federation (ÖSV) for talks.
